start now!

Oh my gosh....if this isn't an eye-opener then what is??? It is never too late to start working out! Even if you can only walk 1/2 mile a day....do that until you reach 1 mile...then keep increasing every week. Also add weights to your workout....muscle burns calories even at rest, so good muscle tone is important! In a year's time you will feel so much better about yourself. Combine working out (cardio & weights) with a healthy diet and you will see results and feel better even more quickly.

I know people get frustrated when they don't see results but even if the results aren't coming as quickly as you wish, you are still building healthy lungs, heart, brain, skin, etc! Don't necessarily measure your results with the scales either especially if you are lifting weights (remember high reps with low weight will NOT bulk you up, it will develop toned muscles). Muscle weighs more than fat so if you are losing fat and building muscle the number on the scale isn't  necessarily going down. Rather, judge your progress by measuring yourself every month along with weighing yourself. Also a true test is by how your clothes fit :)

Don't be discouraged, just keep pressing on so you can be the woman on the right!!!!

starting again

It has been a little over two weeks since I pulled  my calf muscle. It feels almost back to normal. It still tightens up but I am going to start again doing my turbofire workouts. The only workouts I have been doing in the past two weeks is ab ripper so I am anxious to get back to it!!

The first week I know it was best to cut out all activity so my calf would properly heal. The second week I had family staying with me for the week and while playing ping pong, I felt pain in my calf so I decided it best to stay off it another week. Oh and my diet????? Since we had family here from Missouri we had to have dessert every night...not that they request it, but we like to return the favor because when we visit them in Missouri, they make dessert for us every night. So I am also anxious to get back to a healthy less carb-filled diet!

Today, I will weigh and measure myself and post results tomorrow on my progress page. I plan to also post my weight and measurements from my Curves days to see how far I have to go. Wishing you a healthy day!!!

you tell 'em

Have you ever had to say this to anyone? It seems the minute you decline eating a piece of cake or a greasy hamburger and fries opting for a salad, people think you are on a diet. Watching what you eat and choosing the healthier option is simply eating healthy.

Do you sometimes think.....hhmmmm, if I eat that piece of cake, I will have to be on the elliptical for an extra 30 minutes???? I think that sometimes which either stops me from eating it, or I eat it and then do just that....work out a little extra that day or the next day. It is all about choices, people!!

A diet to me has too many restrictions...you have to eat certain foods and if you stray from the plan.......the guilt, oh the guilt. So I just choose to eat healthy. I admit, not every day is a "good" day, but as long as most days are good, I am winning!

Update

Well I survived the canoe trip thanks to my husband and best friend. I sat in the middle of the canoe while they toted my butt down the river.

Today, I am walking a little better.......Friday and Saturday I walked like a peg-legged pirate. I picked up a few nicknames from friends over the weekend, such as, gimpy, slow poke......at any rate, I am glad I went because when it first happened I really considered not going at all.

I plan to add some cardio workouts and my leg routine hopefully by Thursday/Friday, but until then, I will only be doing upper body workouts and abs....no turbofire :(   Without that fat-burning cardio, I will really have to watch my calorie intake.

Here are a couple of pictures from the weekend.

This is the cabin we enjoyed for the weekend, thank you Chris!

This is Chris' dock on Long Lake...beautiful!

so disappointed...

Not good....while working out today, I pulled/tore my calf muscle. I moved "just right" and I felt it "pop" followed by intense pain.....so as sad I am to say this, my July goals are on hold for a couple of weeks.

I researched the treatment and I have to remember r.i.c.e. - rest, ice, compression, elevation.  My parents are a Godsend....in more ways than I can tell you here, but they are bringing crutches, compression bandages and and extra ice pack for me. Lord, I have never used crutches in my entire 45 years....this should be interesting.....

Oh and to top it off, we are leaving for an northern Michigan a canoe trip tonight....not sure how I am going to do my "rice" in a canoe, but we shall see.......to be continued.........

For information on calf injuries click here and here.

the time is now

Just think of what you can accomplish in 1 year......make the commitment....you are worth it!!!

so true

Oh so true! Exercise is great....even if you don't need to lose weight, exercise is good for your skin, heart, brain, lungs......pretty much all your organs. But if you are trying to lose weight, what you put in your mouth will determine how fast or slow you will progress towards your goal.

Eat as whole as you can...."whole" meaning fruits, vegetables, lean meats, nuts (in moderation because they have a lot of fat), seeds, whole grain, etc. Stay away from processed foods, refined sugar and starchy carbohydrates, such as, bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, sugary snacks.

I know, I know, bread and potatoes are amazingly delicious. I am not saying you can NEVER eat them. But until you read your goal weight, cut waaaaay back. You will see results much quicker which will help you stay motivated.

making a commitment...for real

How many times have you said to yourself, "I'll start my diet on Monday". I have have said it so many times I've lost track!! I am tired of waking up in the morning and being miffed at myself because of the way I ate the day before. I decided what I need it #1 accountability and #2 commitment. What better way to hold yourself accountable than to post your progress daily via a blog on the internet! So that is what I decided to do. Come along on the journey with me to becoming healthy and fit!

Back in 2006, while going to Curves, I got down to 127lbs, so I know how lose weight but I am not so good at staying there. I am not obese and only have about 15lbs to shed. For me, it is not about being skinny or staying at a certain weight. I just want to be fit and toned. I have for years wanted toned arms and tummy and even back in 2006 when I lost that weight, my arms and tummy where still not toned.

Another thing you should know.....I love working out. I have Beach Body's P90X and TurboFire dvds. I LOVE turbofire and have been doing that for about 9 months 4-5 days a week along with the P90X legs DVD one day a week. I currently work out 5-6 days a week so my cardio is good and my legs are fairly toned. But I need to work on my arms, chest, back and abs more.

What really got me fired up about doing a fitness blog is a lovely girl named Jen. I found her on pinterest. She has an amazing story and is such an inspiration. You can read about her here.

Now the truth.....my problem is I love to eat!! I eat pretty healthy really....breakfast is either oatmeal with flax and chia seeds or an eggbeaters omelet filled with veges....oh and cheese (my nemesis, or should I say one of my nemesis') During the work week, I eat a salad with black peppered turkey, avocado, tomato, green pepper, red onion, flax seed, feta cheese with raspberry vinaigrette dressing topped off with garlic croutons. Not too shabby.....

The problem comes at dinner and the weekends.......I love potatoes, pasta, bread, beer, wine, you know, all the sugary, starchy carbs that inhibit weigh loss. I am not an alcoholic by any means but a few glasses of beer can be as much as 500 calories and light beer is around 300 calories and wine...not much better.

However, I decided to just do it! Become a healthier me! I want to turn 46 (December 31) in the best shape of my life, so let's get started!!
